Mayville State University - Mayville, ND

Low rafter height - by NCAA regulation -prevented use of a effective center cluster for the Mayville State University gym, says systems designer, Dallas Anderson, of Tricorne Audio, Inc. Fargo, ND. “We did not want to do a full distributed sound system,” he says, due to the cost involved with installation in an existing building.” Anderson EASE modeled the gym and chose Community R.5 loudspeakers-three each in five clusters, supplemented by two dual 15” Community SBS25 subwoofers-configured in a “distributed cluster” system. The R.5's are run 70V to reduce cable costs, he says, and for impedance issues. Amplifiers are three QSC CX series, with Shure P4800 processing, and a TOA M900 mixer. “This design worked very well,” he says. “It provides the directionality of a cluster with the cost benefits of a distributed system. And since the subwoofers are coupled to the roof, they can definitely shake the building. Once again, we were very pleased with the performance of the Community product.”

This was a design/build project by Tricorne Audio, Inc., a licensed and bonded systems contractor serving the Upper Midwest.
