BHS Performing Arts Center – Bismarck, ND

Situation: Bismarck High School remained the only high school in the Bismarck Public District without a performing arts/theatre venue attached to the school.  With continued growth in the district the time arrived for BPS to expand the oldest school in the district and build a new performing arts center.  The project was engineered by Prairie Engineering with design assistance provided by Tricorne Audio with the end result providing Bismarck High School performing arts groups a place to finally call their own.

Solution: The end result of this 2.5-year build project is a state-of-the-art Left-Center-Right audio system comprised of EAW QX series speakers.  Powered by QSC amplifiers and utilizing QSC QSys for all system processing the end result is a wonderful example of utilizing EASE acoustical modeling to provide the optimum speakers for a venue.  The system includes (18) Shure QLXD digital wireless systems, QSC K8.2 portable monitor and effects speakers and a host of wired microphones from Shure.  The lecture system provides a simple user interface for the day to day activities and control of the video projection and video capture systems.  The heart of the performance system is an Allen & Heath DLive mixer, currently configured for 70 inputs the DLive provides 96kHz processing and less than 2ms latency for all inputs to any output.  The theatre includes a new black box theatre, dressing rooms, scene shop and pre-function areas with audio and video system extensions of the theatre.  Production intercom, HD video projection and recording round out the key features of the new system.

Brian Saylor shared these comments: “Working with Tricorne Audio was a joy from beginning to end. Their willingness to listen to our needs and determine equipment and installation that best met those demands was first class. The training we received has been not only adequate but excellent. The sound in the auditorium is of the highest professional quality. The system is extremely simple to use, while being powerful enough to fit all of our numerous demands for live performances. I would highly recommend Tricorne for your project!”
